China Array Plastics Showcases Advanced Injection Molding Capabilities for Food Service Industry at Chinaplas 2008

Replacement Lid for Food Processor, Vapor-Tight Globe Lighting Enclosures, Food Prep Pans Underscore China Array Plastics’ Extensive Capabilities

SHANGHAI, China – April 17, 2008 – China Array Plastics LLC, a full-service injection molder of high-performance thermoplastics, with headquarters in the United States in Pittsfield, Mass., is exhibiting a new replacement lid for the Robot Coupe Model R8 food processor and a vapor-tight globe light enclosure in varying sizes and colors here at Chinaplas 2008 in booth W1F59. The new replacement lid is molded from clear Lexan* polycarbonate (PC) resin from SABIC Innovative Plastics and features excellent cleanability, chemical resistance, impact strength, dimensional stability, and clarity. The vapor-tight globe light enclosure - a plastic protective globe molded to fit over light bulbs in food service environments - and the food prep pans, can be molded using a large selection of high-performance thermoplastic materials. Replacing glass or stainless steel with high-performance plastics in these applications provides excellent impact and chemical resistance, and the ability to withstand extreme temperatures. These new applications represent China Arrays’ newest high-end applications now being manufactured at its state-of-the art molding facility in Wuhan, China.

Working with SABIC Innovative Plastics, China Array Plastics selected the optimum food grade of Lexan PC resin for the new Robot Coupe replacement lid. The resin is well-suited for filling out large, structural parts – such as the 14 in. diameter lid – while keeping stress low. This resulted in greater strength, durability, and overall performance. The lid also molds to an absolute smooth finish with brilliant clarity for superior cleaning, sanitation, and visibility.

In addition to being injection molded from tough, virtually unbreakable Lexan PC resin, the new replacement lid for the Robot Coupe Model R8 food processor also features a liquid silicone molded gasket, stainless steel turnbuckle, inserts, and screws. It weighs over one kg, is molded and coated with FDA compliant materials, and is able to stand up to repeated use under very harsh cleaning conditions. It also installs in seconds.

Both the vapor-tight lighting enclosure and the food prep pans illustrate China Array Plastics’ engineering flexibility and high-performance thermoplastic materials knowledge. The products come in varying sizes, depending on the environment they will be used in, the wattage of the bulb, or the size of pan. The material used to create these products also depends on the application and service requirements. Working with global materials suppliers such as SABIC Innovative Plastics and Solvay Advanced Materials, China Array and its customers have access to the most cutting-edge materials on the market. The materials used in these applications are FDA compliant, stand up to extreme temperatures, and are impact resistant, ensuring they are safe and cost-effective for use in the food service industry.

The new products illustrate how China Array Plastics’ expertise in molding high-performance thermoplastics can greatly benefit the global food services industry. “China Array Plastics has been manufacturing high-performance thermoplastic parts for the dairy equipment market for 27 years,” said Carl Olson, vice president, Sales and Marketing, China Array Plastics. “Translating our success to the food services arena, which has many of the same issues of sanitation, chemical resistance, and durability as the dairy industry, was a natural extension for us. We are seeing a lot of opportunities here where our high-tech molding expertise can offer food service OEM’s a strong competitive advantage.”

About China Array

China Array U.S. was founded 28 years ago by Russell Johnson, who has been manufacturing industrial products to meet international standards continually during that time. Johnson has also served as an advisor to Harvard Business School's Asian Research Center on manufacturing in China. China Array Plastics is a full-service custom injection molder specializing in high-performance thermoplastics.

China Array Plastics selected Wuhan for its China headquarters due to the city’s historical position as the heartland of Chinese industry. Wuhan, which is home to several universities and technical institutions, offers skilled workers, a well developed infrastructure, and excellent distribution. The capital of Hubei Province, Wuhan straddles the Yangtze River at the nexus of main river, rail, and highway routes running north/south and east/west across China. Approximately equidistant from Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong, it is perfectly situated for supplying customers within China or for reaching coastal ports for export.

China Array Plastics is a U.S. company. The new facility – whose Chinese name is Wuhan Array (China) – is known as a wholly owned foreign enterprise in China. This structure allows China Array Plastics to protect its customers’ intellectual property rights and gives them the confidence of dealing with a firm that operates under the laws and business practices of the United States.
