Clariant China President Dr. Fu Cai Wang hosts school workshop to support sustainable development in local community
• Chemistry “micro-class” presented to Zhenjiang Xuefu Road Primary School in East China
• Fostered students’ interests in science and chemistry with an enhanced awareness on safety
• HOPES Corporate Citizenship Activity continues to benefit communities in China
Shanghai, March 25, 2019–Clariant, a focused and innovative specialty chemical company, today announced that it hosted a “micro-class” at the Zhenjiang Xuefu Road Primary School in Eastern China on March 22 last Friday, as part of its HOPES Corporate Citizenship Activity, which has benefited many community citizens in neighborhoods where Clariant operates in China since 2014. The mini-workshop was delivered by Clariant’s China President Fu Cai Wang who, together with his team, provided more than 900 students at the school a rare opportunity to learn about chemistry in the real world and enhance awareness on daily safety in a funny, interactive way.
“I’m really proud to be part of our HOPES program that has delivered numerous great benefits to our neighborhoods in China. The session today reinforced to me and my colleagues that Clariant is part of this community and is responsible for contributing to its success,” said Fu Cai Wang, Clariant’s China President. “March 25 is China’s Safety Education Day for Primary and Secondary School Students in 2019, and I believe our courses have raised safety awareness and provided happiness to these lovely students.”
In addition to an interactive session on the importance of safety delivered by the Clariant China President himself, followed by a practical workshop on first-aid delivered by the team leader of International Emergency Medical Team of China, the Clariant team including volunteers from business units, supporting functions and local production site, also shared with the students useful information on the prevention of child abduction, as well as some fun aspects related to chemistry in three experiment-cum-workshops, covering the Journey of Chocolate, Paper Making and Tailor-made Color Pen. Students had the opportunity to practice these techniques themselves in a hands-on workshop afterwards. And some teachers and Clariant volunteers also participated in the joyful hands-on process.
“We’re again most grateful for the Clariant team and Mr. Fu Cai Wang, in particular, for their continued support of our school through the HOPES program,” said Jing Tao Zhuang, Principal of Zhenjiang Xuefu Road Primary School. “Our students had a fun afternoon as they gained good, practical knowledge in chemistry and more importantly, the importance of safety from some real experts. This is something they may not be exposed to by our regular curriculum.”
The Zhenjiang Xuefu Road Primary School has been a long-term partner of Clariant’s HOPES Corporate Citizenship Activity that represents the elements of Healthy, Open-minded, Positive, Explorative and Sustainable, in an initiative that Clariant started in China in 2014 to help support school students to further embrace a fulfilling school life and a bright future.
“I appreciated our external expert to support it. I thanked our volunteers who had the passion to take part in HOPES, while all the materials were prepared by our colleagues. The students learnt knowledge and skill from amusement, which was amazing! Clariant is a responsible company. Sustainability is one of our strategies, our brand value.” said Margaret Soong, Clariant Greater China’s Head of Sustainability and Regulatory Affairs. “Besides the Zhenjiang Xuefu Road Primary School, we’ll continue our partnership with more local communities through various HOPES programs.”
