Shanghai, September 20, 2019–Clariant has participated in the 10th China Petroleum and Chemical International Conference (CPCIC) held on September 18-20 in Hangzhou, China, sharing with conference participants insights on sustainability and innovation. The specialty chemical company highlighted leading concepts and solutions around renewable energy as the chemical industry in China continues to support the country on its path toward a greener and more sustainable economy.
While the economy in China is heading towards the direction of high-quality development under the urbanization megatrend, it is facing more challenges coming from such area as pollution, energy crisis and dwindling resources. The petroleum and chemical sector in China have gathered once again this year at the CPCIC to put forward insights and solutions on how the industry may contibute under the emerging trends of green mobility, carbon reduction and circular economy, as well as sustainability in general.
“Clariant is fully committed to the development in China and we firmly believe that the challenges we are facing also present with us opportunities,” said Fu Cai Wang, Clariant China President. “Some of Clariant’s innovative technologies are already playing an important role in contributing to the circular economy and the sustainable development of urbanization in China. By working closer with our local partners, we will continue to dedicate our efforts helping to boost the large-scale use of renewable energy, under our always consistent corporate strategy pillars-add value with sustainability by focusing on innovation and R&D.”
Clariant Catalysts cited the “Power-to-X” (P2X) concept as an example of how it could leverage its innovation and technological advances to help the circular economy and sustainable urbanization in China. P2X is an advanced conversion concept that includes using catalytic technologies to sustainably transfer renewable energy from wind, solar and hydro sources into storable and transportable gaseous and liquid forms. These can then be reconverted and utilized in a number of sectors. The P2X concept is a very practical sustainable process that could reduce carbon footprint tremendously, while providing more options for renewable power to be consumed.
In addition to highlighting its state-of-art innovations, Clariant also shared how the company’s existing technologies help city in energy conservation and emission reduction, such as the EnviCat® VOC catalyst, which can remove volatile organic compounds from industrial off-gases at 99%, while reducing the energy consumption by up to 40%, very helpful for local customers and stakeholders.
Fu Cai Wang also anticipates more local-driven technologies and solutions will be coming from Clariant China team, with their continuous efforts in strengthening local footprints and innovation capabilities.
