PPG recognized as Good Enterprise Fulfilling Corporate Social Responsibility
BEIJING, March 31, 2015 – PPG Industries (NYSE:PPG) was recognized as a Good Enterprise Fulfilling Corporate Social Responsibility in the awarding ceremony of the 2015 Top 500 Enterprises for Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR) in China held recently at the Diaoyutai State Guest House in Beijing. Organized by the China Enterprise Evaluation Association and the School of Social Sciences, Tsinghua University, the 2015 China CSR Top 500 list was published by a panel of CSR experts after extensive research and evaluation of 1,600 candidate enterprises. Thanks to its exemplary CSR performance, PPG ranks the eighth in the list.
Government officials and CSR experts delivered addresses at the ceremony including Mr. HouYunchun, member of the National Committee of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, president of the Enterprise Evaluation Association and researcher for the Development Research Center of the State Council, Mr. Yu Bin, director of the Development Research Center of the State Council and member of the leading party group and Mr. Liu Guozheng, chairman of the China Forum of Environmental Journalists. At the reporting session of the 2015 China CSR Top 500 list, Mr. Zheng Lu, academic director of the CSR Evaluation Committee of the China Enterprise Evaluation Association introduced the evaluation standards and process and answered questions from the journalists on site.
As the only speaker from foreign-invested enterprises, Cathy Yan, PPG general manager, corporate and government affairs, Asia Pacific, introduced PPG’s value and practices in fulfilling its social responsibilities. She was also awarded 2015 Excellent CSR Performer for her innovative ideas and contribution. “Recognition of the needs and concerns of society is one of PPG’s five key corporate values. Established in 1951, the PPG Industries Foundation invests over US$5 million each year in the fields of education, humanity aid, culture and art, community giving and environmental protection,” said Yan. “While maintaining stable business growth, PPG adheres to a sustainable development strategy, making every effort to reduce its footprint on the environment and deliver high-quality, innovative and sustainable solutions that customers trust in a bid to contribute to the healthy development of the community where it has a presence and the society as a whole.”
In addition, PPG’s best practices in community engagement, energy conservation and environmental protection were included as classical energy conservation and environmental protection cases in the 2015 China CSR Evaluation Report. Moreover, constantly seeking for innovation in its community giving projects, PPG global launched a Colorful Community program in 2015, donating coatings products and volunteering services to beautify and serve the community. The new project has already been rolled out in several cities in China.
