SGL Group Celebrates Milestone in China with 15 Years of Passion and Excellence

Shanghai, Sept. 17, 2013. The SGL Group – The Carbon Company - today held a media workshop in Shanghai to celebrate its 15th anniversary in China, reviewing the achievements that the company has made over the past fifteen years and looking ahead to the future growth in China.

Fifteen Years in China: Stay focused on Carbon

In a conference room of classic elegance, SGL displayed photos of a changing Shanghai in the past fifteen years, highlighting the role of economic and technological development in improving people’s livelihood. Dr. Guenter Hermann, CEO of SGL China, shared with the audience the company’s footprint in China market over the past one and a half decade. The company also briefed the media about the celebration events for the fifteen years’ anniversary, showcasing SGL’s commitment and passion.

This year marks SGL Group’s 15th anniversary in China. Since it acquired the first business license in 1998, SGL has been dedicated to expanding its presence in the market. Now SGL Group has established an independent local organization in China as part of its international operation, with several legal entities and almost 500 employees to provide world-class products and service for both local and international customers.

“With the 15th anniversary of SGL Group in China, we’ve reached another milestone of SGL’s success story,” said Dr. Guenter Hermann, “I would like to extend our gratitude to our fellow employees. All of them contributed in one way or another to the success of SGL in China, which considerably boost the total business of SGL Group. Carbon for better urban life

SGL Group’s carbon and graphite related products are extensively used in the recycling of scrap steel, aerospace, automotive manufacture, renewable energy, building construction, sports equipments and many other fields, which are enjoying in-creasing profile in China market.

Meanwhile, SGL Group is working in close collaboration with leading players in various industries to create a better life for human beings.

SGL Automotive Carbon Fibers (SGL ACF), the joint venture with BMW Group, supplies carbon fiber and carbon fiber fabrics for BMW i series. The first BMW i3 vehicles will be delivered to customers at the end of 2013. So far, the annual output of SGL ACF in Moses Lake, Washington has reached 3000 tons of carbon fiber. The first of the two carbon fiber lines started production in September 2011, while the second followed in August 2013.

Recently, SGL Group and Samsung established a strategic partnership to develop new industrial and electronic applications with carbon composite materials. The joint venture targets applications in the markets for electronic products, wind blades, pressure vessels, automotive and household appliances in the Far East.

With the growing need for green buildings in China, the demand for efficient solutions for climate-adapted buildings is rising rapidly. SGL and the Lindner Group, the worldwide construction specialist, have established a joint venture committed to promoting the green air conditioning technology and will provide optimized and innovative solutions for China’s green architecture.
