DUPONT PERFORMANCE ELASTOMERS ANNOUNCES THAT VITON® AND VAMAC® WILL JOIN TO FORM “V SOLUTIONS”

DuPont Performance Elastomers (DPE) has announced that effective January 1, 2008, in order to serve its customers more effectively, DuPont™ Vamac® ethylene acrylic elastomers and Viton® fluoroelastomers will be combined within DPE. The new market-facing group, called V Solutions, will provide customers with a broader range of solutions, greater flexibility and improved efficiency when evaluating materials and developing solutions for sealing and hose applications.

“DuPont Performance Elastomers’ goal is to offer customers the broadest range of high performance elastomers; and bringing Viton® and Vamac® together supports this goal for sealing solutions,” said Francine Shaw, president and CEO. “We will put our science to work by focusing our technology resources and applications development expertise on supporting customers for new applications in this performance range,” she said.

Both Viton® and Vamac® play critical roles in fluid containment for severe applications where temperatures and chemicals are challenging. In automotive applications in particular, increasingly stringent emission regulations will require higher performance sealing solutions.

Vamac® ethylene acrylic elastomer (AEM) products are a comprehensive family of heat and fluid resistant elastomers for flexible applications ranging from hoses, dampers and boots to seals and gaskets. Vamac® provides significant performance advantages over many ACM and HNBR grades, including better low temperature resistance and peak temperature performance up to 200 C. New products were recently introduced to the Vamac family and are called Vamac Ultra. This portfolio can help customers meet increasingly demanding engineering specifications under the hood, at extremes, over time and on budget.

Viton® fluoroelastomers are well known for their excellent thermal resistance (with intermittent exposure up to 285°C), their resistance to aggressive fuels and chemicals, and offer numerous advantages over NBR, ACM, and HNBR. Since their introduction 50 years ago, Viton® fluoroelastomers have evolved into many different types in direct response to the ever-changing requirements for sealing and containment of more aggressive fluids in automotive, chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical and food processing industries. Recent introductions feature improved processing and end-use performance.
