PPG Propels New Concepts of Energy Savings and Environmental Friendliness in China Composites Expo 2006
(September 14th , 2006 - Shanghai China)At the 12th China International Composites Industrial Technical Expo held recently in Shanghai, leading diversified world manufacturer PPG Industries exclusively sponsored the “China Composites - JEC Innovation Award.” The award were initiated and set up by the committee of China International Composites Industrial Technical Expo and the French JEC Media Group. The award encourages technical and new product development in the China composites industry so as to propel China’s entry into and support its presence in the global market.
On the award ceremony, Ms. Victoria M. Holt, PPG Senior Vice President of Glass and Fiber Glass, commented in her opening address: “Composites industry innovations have contributed great benefits to the world's societies and economies. Composite-based windmill blades, oil pipes and power-transmission components are helping address the energy needs of the global economy. And composites solutions are helping countries such as China address growing infrastructure needs, with railcars, cooling towers and utility poles that are more energy efficient, corrosion resistant and environmentally friendly.”
In this show, besides sponsoring technical and new product development in the China composites industry, PPG earnestly advocates applying new concepts of energy saving and environmental friendly products to the fiber glass reinforced material industry. In a forum at the show, PPG Growth Initiative Manager Kevin Richardson gave a speech entitled “An Innovative way to reduce air emission and energy usage for producing FRP,” he introduced new technical research that PPG has recently achieved.
PPG industries is composed of 15 strategic business units in four major product areas: fiber glass, coatings, glass, and chemicals. As one of the world’s largest manufacturers of continuous-strand fiber glass, PPG currently operates nine manufacturing sites worldwide and maintains a network of highly qualified sales and technical support professionals.
PPG leads the world in fiber glass production. Its major products include direct draw, yarn, chopped strand, assembled roving and rolled goods that are widely applied in the energy, transportation, construction, and electronic industries.
PPG Industries continues leading the industry by creating better products and processes by investing in programs such as Sigma Logic Methodology, Lean Enterprise, and Quality Action Teams (QAT), thereby adding customer value through innovation and continuous improvement. With four research centers around the world, PPG‘s specialized technical facilities around the world and scientific personnel have earned many awards and patents.
PPG has been building its presence in China since the 1980s. After initially setting up its manufacturing facilities in Taiwan and Kunshan, PPG in 2006 invested with Sinoma Jinjing Fiber Glass, a fiber glass production base having an annual output of 200 million tons. PPG plans to establish a technical center in Suzhou soon which will extend its support for composites growth in China.
