E.M.B. Products AG Named Exclusive Distributor in Germany for Nanogel® Aerogel-Filled Polycarbonate Multiwall Panels
Successful Installation of 135m2 Skylight System Underscores the High Energy Saving and Light Diffusion Properties of Aerogel Technology
E.M.B. Products AG has been named exclusive distributor in Germany for commercial polycarbonate multiwall glazing systems filled with Nanogel® translucent aerogel manufactured by Cabot Corporation.
Nanogel-filled polycarbonate multiwall panels are a highly impact resistant and energy efficient glazing product. The product features a proprietary outer surface treatment that virtually eliminates the degrading effect caused by UV radiation in addition to the superior insulation and light diffusion properties of Nanogel aerogel.
Nanogel translucent aerogel is an innovative daylighting material that can double the energy efficiency of traditional fiberglass, polycarbonate sheets, and glass wall panels and/or skylights. At the same time, it promotes the even spread of light and provides excellent sound insulation. And with its extremely small, nanoporous particles, comprised mainly of air, it is moisture resistant, thus safely preventing the growth of mold and mildew.
E.M.B. is headquartered in Langenau (near Ulm, Germany) and specializes in the manufacture, distribution and installation of smoke and heat extractors, natural and mechanical ventilation, natural light and solar shade systems as well as heating and energy saving systems.
Case study
One of the first Nanogel aerogel applications for EMB is the restoration of the production hall of HaRo Anlagentechnik GmbH, a mechanical engineering company based in Rüthen (near Dortmund). The distribution partner of EMB - Roda Licht- und Lufttechnik GmbH (North Germany, near Hannover) - supplied a new vaulted skylight system with an overall length of 50 m and a width in excess of 2.5 m, made from 10 mm thick polycarbonate multiwall sheets filled with Nanogel translucent aerogel. The application provides a U-value of 1.93 (W/m2.K) and a light transmission of 65%.
According to the owners, a key consideration for selecting the Nanogel aerogel-filled glazing product was the need to obtain the highest possible level of natural daylighting with minimal glare. “The new skylight system provides an excellent combination of high-light diffusion and low glare, far exceeding our expectations,” states one of the company’s employees. “With its unique Nanogel filling, it creates a very pleasant working environment for both indoor climate and light conditions.”
Greater Design Freedom
“Nanogel-filled polycarbonate multiwall sheets offers architects substantially greater design freedom for maximising the diffusion of natural daylight. It’s ‘museum quality’ light, without any hot spots or shadows, and it meets the increasingly lower U values required by building insulation regulators,” says James Satterwhite, Global Business Manager for the Nanogel Construction Segment at Cabot Corporation. “The response to our product shows that there is a rising demand for improved energy efficiency in daylighting applications beyond the limits of traditional glazing solutions. Our Nanogel filling machine for polycarbonate multiwall sheets is up and running in Frankfurt, Germany, and we are well prepared to meet the needs of this growing market.”

About Nanogel
Cabot Corporation created Nanogel in part to insulate thermally inefficient glazing systems. The feather-light aerogel is based on Cabot's patented surface modification and fine particle manufacturing technology. The nanoporous particles have an air content of 97% and weigh only 60-80 grams per liter, making Nanogel the lightest solid material in the world. It provides a superior combination of thermal and sound insulation as well as light transmission and diffusion over other insulation materials. These benefits offer new design solutions for architects where both maximum natural daylight levels and energy efficiency are required. Nanogel is manufactured exclusively by Cabot in Frankfurt, Germany.
