GE RapidStrength* Silicone Sealant’s Productivity, Quality & Protective Glazing Capabilities A Solution to Industry’s Demand

GE RapidStrength window bedding silicone sealant’s fast green strength helps enable manufacturing facilities to reduce costs through increased throughput with less inventory handling, work in process, breakage and field service. While many products currently available in the market can take from six hours to 21 days to gain strength, RapidStrength sealant typically develops sufficient elastomeric and adhesive strength—within 8-15 minutes of mixing and applying— to permit movement and handling of sash subassemblies without glass slippage. The industry’s demand for the popular GE RapidStrength window bedding silicone sealant continues to grow at a rapid pace, as evidenced by an enormous increase in sales of Momentive Performance Materials. A cold-applied, 100 percent silicone, RapidStrength sealant can provide many advantages over other glazing technologies, helping to reduce production times and increase productivity at manufacturing facilities.

Silicone RTV Technologies for Next Generation Automotive Applications

Figure 1: The Basic Structure of SiliconesABSTRACT

Environmental pressures and increasing fuel prices have triggered a number of major developments in the automotive industry. To achieve better fuel economy and emissions control, engineers have been evaluating replacement of mechanical systems with more efficient electronic alternatives. New regulations have provided incentives for industry developments such as hybrid cars, the use of bio-fuel, clean diesel and fuel cell technology. To meet the European directives for "end of life vehicle", design for disassembly and re-use are also increasingly in focus.

Momentive presents optimised fully-fluorinated LSR family

Momentive Performance Materials presents its new, further-improved FFSL 70x1 range of fully-fluorinated liquid silicone rubber products. These new fluoro silicones succeed in combining excellent suitability for non-polar media such as fuels, lubricants and oils with cost-efficient fully automated manufacturing using conventional LSR process and cold runner technology for flash-less and trim-free parts within very short cycle times.
“Our plant is dedicated above all to the production of LSR, mainly for use in the connector and cable seals used throughout the complex wiring harness in automotive assemblies. Where seals need to be resistant to fuel products, we previously had to rely on external supply of fluorosilicone parts,” explains Stefan Roenisch, Manager Tool & Process Engineering LSR at Delphi Connections-Systems.

Momentive Performance Materials today presents its new, further-improved FFSL 70x1 range of fully-fluorinated liquid silicone rubber products. These new fluoro silicones succeed in combining excellent suitability for non-polar media such as fuels, lubricants and oils with cost-efficient fully automated manufacturing using conventional LSR process and cold runner technology for flash-less and trim-free parts within very short cycle times. The resistance to the different media and physical material characteristics are similar to those of conventional fluorovinylmethyl silicone (FVMQ). However, the poly addition system developed for this material guarantees much faster polymerisation than conventional, peroxide cross-linked FVMQ materials. The low viscosity attained also ensures the compatibility to basic principles of the mass-production applications of LSRs.

Momentive’s New SPUR+* Prepolymers Offer High Tensile Strength for Next-Generation Structural Adhesives

LEVERKUSEN, GERMANY — OCTOBER 9, 2008

Momentive Performance Materials will introduce two breakthrough prepolymers for industrial adhesives formulations at the Adhesive and Sealants Council’s 2008 Fall Convention & Expo in Baltimore, Maryland, October 12th to 14th, 2008. SPUR+ 3100HM prepolymer and SPUR+ 3200HM prepolymer will join Momentive’s highly successful SPUR+ family of silylated polyurethane resins. These high modulus prepolymers are excellent candidates to be considered for use as binding agents that can help formulators of structural adhesives achieve high tensile strength, without primers for most substrates, in both one- and two-part adhesive formulations.
