DSM and Ascend form global strategic alliance for supply of polyamide 66 compounds

Royal DSM, the global Life Sciences and Material Sciences company, and Ascend Performance Materials Inc., the premium provider of high-quality chemicals, fibers and plastics, announce that they have formed a global strategic alliance for the supply of compounds based on polyamide 66 (PA66). Under the agreement, Ascend becomes the strategic supplier to DSM for PA66 base-polymer used as raw material for Akulon® PA66 compounds for engineering plastics applications. In addition, DSM will distribute Ascend's portfolio of PA66 compounds sold under the brand name Vydyne®.

Joint research project between DSM and ERDA confirms prime position for high performance polyamides in safer circuit breakers

DSM’s high performance polyamides in molded case circuit breakers (MCCBs)Royal DSM, the global Life Sciences and Materials Sciences company, says that new independent research with Electrical Research & Development Association (ERDA), a cooperative research institution in India, shows that the use of DSM’s high performance polyamides in molded case circuit breakers (MCCBs) makes them safer and more cost-effective to produce than traditional versions made in thermoset composites. MCCBs are heavy duty circuit breakers, mostly used in industrial and commercial buildings, and operate at far higher electrical ratings than miniature circuit breakers, MCBs, used in domestic housing.

DSM opens international research center for innovative materials

DSM Engineering PlasticsToday, Royal DSM opened its new center for research into and development of high-performance materials on the Brightlands Chemelot Campus in Sittard-Geleen, the Netherlands. The completion of DSM’s largest materials center worldwide is part of the €100 million investment in knowledge and innovation in the Netherlands that DSM announced in May 2012. The center employs over 400 knowledge workers and combines important technological skills and expertise unique in the Netherlands for use in applications the world over.
